Not quite sure why...

...but there were apparently 65 visitors to the site yesterday with a massive 444 page views between them. Hello everybody! And it's a week since I posted anything new.

Even though it may be better for me to keep quiet, I've added a review of Elfin Saddle here.

Off to Bexhill tonight to see Patti Smith, one of my all time heroes. Here she is with another one:

The King Is Dead

The Decemberists' wonderful new album is out today, channeling Reckoning-era REM (with Peter Buck along for the ride) and classic Americana with a charming, stripped-down, optimistic, chiming set of songs. Gillian Welch adds harmonies and there's a guest fiddler too. Mainman Colin Meloy exudes the air of someone who has successfully got over himself, with the overcomplication and look-at-me cleverness of some of the band's earlier efforts forgotten. You may get the impression that I'm a convert...

More to follow, but their concert at the De La Warr on 12 March already looks one not to be missed.

Forthcoming attractions

A bit of a connection back to the Incredibles...  I've been listening a lot recently to the Wurld EP from weird Canadian art-duo Elfin Saddle - they're similarly unconcerned with the risk of being labelled self-indulgent or pretentious. Now the postman has just brought me their Ringing For The Begin Again album. I feel a review coming on...

And back in the saddle (note deft link) are British weirdos Woodcraft Folk. They've got a new single out after far too long a gap from their wonderful Trough of Bowland. I'll revisit that after appropriately revisiting East Lancashire next weekend.

Rapidly approaching: Patti Smith plays the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill a week on Friday. Watch this space.
